How to actually decide
Start with dog count, because it scales faster than yard size. One dog spreads waste over a predictable area; three dogs cover the whole lawn, which means more surface to sweep and more chances to step in something between visits. Three or more dogs is a twice-weekly household almost regardless of lot size.
Then look at how the yard is used. A lawn that's mostly decorative tolerates a longer interval. A lawn where a toddler crawls, where you host, or where you sit out in the evening does not — that's a weekly-minimum yard even with one dog.
Finally, adjust for season. Northern Virginia summers speed up decomposition and odor and bring flies; fall leaf cover hides waste and makes each sweep slower. Both are good reasons to tighten up for a few months. You can move between plans by text with no fee, so treat the choice as a starting point rather than a commitment.
