The short answer
In Northern Virginia, recurring dog waste removal runs roughly $19 to $45 per visit. Where you land in that range depends far more on how often you're serviced than on how big your yard is. At Scoop Cop the numbers are $19 a visit twice weekly, $30 a visit weekly, and $41 a visit every other week — flat, for up to four dogs.
Why more frequent service costs less per visit
It seems backwards until you think about the work. A yard serviced twice a week never accumulates much, so each visit is quick. A yard serviced every other week has fourteen days of waste spread across it, often hidden in grass that's grown since the last visit. That's why the per-visit price goes up as frequency goes down — you're paying for time on the property, not for a fixed unit of "scooping".
The three fees that make a cheap quote expensive
- Per-dog pricing. Many services quote a headline rate for one dog and add $8 to $15 for each additional dog. A four-dog household can end up paying double the advertised price. We use one flat rate up to four dogs specifically so the quote you see is the price you pay.
- Initial or catch-up fees. If a yard hasn't been cleaned in months, most companies charge a one-time cleanup fee before starting recurring service — often $75 to $150. We don't; your first clean is free regardless of what shape the yard is in.
- Contracts and cancellation terms. Some services require a season or a year. Read that clause before signing. Ours doesn't exist — you can pause or cancel by text.
What should be included at any price
At minimum: a full walk of the property (not just the mowed lawn), waste bagged and hauled off-site rather than left in your bin, and the gate secured on the way out. We add a timestamped photo of the latched gate after every visit, because that's the one thing customers worry about when they're not home.
Does yard size matter?
For standard residential lots, not at Scoop Cop — a Vienna townhome patio and a half-acre McLean lot pay the same rate. Properties well over an acre get quoted individually, and we tell you before the first visit rather than surprising you on the invoice.
What most NOVA households actually choose
Weekly is the default and it's the right call for most yards. Small lots with two or more dogs — common in Arlington, Vienna, and Alexandria — often do better twice weekly, because a week of waste on 800 square feet of grass is genuinely unusable. Every other week suits larger, lower-traffic yards with a single dog.
